The Cuthbert Family
Right from the start

Credit unions are very much a family affair for Kerry and Bruce Cuthbert of Ladner. It’s a tradition they’ve maintained from the day each of their four children were born.

“Bruce went directly from the delivery room to the credit union,” says Kerry. “They were the first people that knew our babies were born, and he opened a credit union membership before they were probably four-hours old.”

That early start has created a lifelong partnership with Envision that has enabled the Cuthberts to keep up to the demands of an active family life. Whether it’s home renovations or trips to competitive sporting events or financial planning, Envision’s knowledgeable staff has helped them achieve their goals.

One long-time goal has been to raise their children to be independent and well-informed about money, savings and investing. “Because we have established a relationship with the credit union, I trust them implicitly to provide my kids with a really good foundation,” says Kerry.

The Cuthberts strengthen that foundation at home, where their children participate in discussions about personal finance and how to manage their money responsibly. “On their 13th birthday, they get their own debit card, and we teach them how to use their money effectively: how to set up savings and investments, understanding mutual funds* and retirement plans,” says Kerry.

Although much has changed since Bruce and Kerry became credit union members as toddlers, Kerry says that Envision has successfully retained the community connection she’s always valued. “The service is the same, and the people are the same. That’s what keeps us coming back—that sense of community.”
